The Hole in the Wall

£620.00

Dimensions 70 x 70cm

Acrylic on board
Unframed

The hole in the wall hole was a market that we used to visit when I was seven or eight years old, living in Bahrain. It was called the hole in the wall because each market trader literally sat in a hole carved into a wall instead of a market stall. From here they would sell flip-flops, jewellery, camel-skin bags, saris or whatever. Gold charm bracelets were very fashionable so we would regular visit our favourite jeweller there to choose a charm. Once selected it was weighed on a set of scales and charged accordingly. The gold leaf represents a mask charm.
